Georgia is a small country on the Black Sea coast and with a population of about 3.75 million, the official language is Georgian. The currency is the Georgian Lari (GEL). Important maritime reforms in 2012 made the Georgian flag attractive for international registration. Any foreign individual or legal entity can register a yacht under the flag of Georgia.
The registration process can be completed remotely. A survey inspection is required, though for private yachts under 24 meters, it may be done remotely. The radio license (MMSI, Call Sign) is included in the registration fee, radio operator's certificate is not required. Registration is available for 1, 3 or 5 years.
Documents are accepted in English, which is quite convenient.

The yacht registration in Georgia is divided into two steps. The first step is obtaining a provisional registration of the yacht and radio license for a period of 6 months. The second step is to obtain permanent registration and radio license for a period of 1 year, 3 or 5 years (by choice).
Registration of Pleasure Yachts up to 24 Metres
& up to 100 Gross Tons
The first step: obtaining a provisional registration
for a period of 6 months
Documents Required for Yacht Registration
1. A notarized copy of the passport (page with photo) or ID card of the boat owner. For corporate ownership, provide the company's certificate of registration.
Any foreign individual or legal entity can register a yacht under the Georgian flag. Cases involving sanctioned jurisdictions are reviewed individually.
2. Appointment of a Resident Agent. Non-residents must appoint a Resident Agent, typically a Georgian lawyer or law firm. We work with such an agent.
3. A notarized Power of Attorney from the yacht owner to the Resident Agent in Georgia. We will assist in its preparation.
4. Documents confirming the ownership of the yacht: - Builders Certificate for new boats (original with the seller’s seal or a notarized copy); - if the vessel was purchased, then Bill of Sale signed by the previous owner.
5. If the yacht was registered earlier: - Certificate of Registry from the previous ship register; - Deletion Certificate.
If the Deletion Certificate is not issued yet, temporary yacht registration in Georgia can be issued without it, which is very convenient. A sample document will be sent to you, which you’ll have to fill out, sign and send a scan. Within 6 months, you must obtain and submit the Deletion Certificate to the yacht registry in order to receive permanent registration.
6. Photos of the yacht: - Bow, stern, left or right side of the boat; - Hull Identification Number (HIN); - Engine Serial No.
7. Payment Check.
The Maritime Register of Georgia may request additional documents or technical details during registration. Upon approval, you will receive provisional registration and a temporary radio license valid for 6 months, typically within 1-2 business days.
The second step: obtaining a permanent registration
for a period of 1 year, 3 or 5 years (by choice)
1. A copy of the yacht's Third Party Liability (TPL) insurance. This type of insurance is mandatory for entry into EU ports.
2. Photos of the yacht, confirming the yacht's name and port of registry are marked according to Georgian boat registry requirements. Due to these requirements, the markings must be positioned on specific parts of the hull in a specified size and color. We will help you choose the company that marks the vessels.
3. Surveyor Report. For permanent registration of a yacht in Georgia you must complete a survey inspection. The most preferred Classification Societies include:
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS); - Bureau Veritas (BV); - China Classification Society (CCS); - Indian Register of Shipping (IClass); - Korean Register of Shipping (KR); - Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR); - Nippon Kaiju Koki (NK); - Polish Register of Shipping (PRS); - Registry Italian Naval (RINA).
We can also recommend a registry-approved company that can conduct the survey remotely.
You must submit original or notarized documents to the yacht registry via DHL or similar courier within 6 months. Permanent registration will be issued within 2-3 business days after the ship registry receives the documents.

Yacht registration in Georgia is processed by the Maritime Transport Agency, which also handles radio license registration (MMSI, Call Sign).
Several home ports are available, with Batumi and Poti being the most popular.
Radio License. The radio license is included in the registration fee, and no radio operator's certificate is required – this is one of the most attractive advantages of Georgian registration. You simply need to provide a list of all radio equipment: EPIRB, GPS, Chartplotter, VHF, etc., and specify each device's brand and model. After registration, the EPIRB must be configured according to flag requirements, and its details (model, serial number, unique ID) must be separately submitted to the registry. The remote survey also requires photographs of all radio equipment on board.
Survey Inspection. Another advantage is the option for remote survey (for private yachts up to 24 meters and 100 GT), conducted by a company approved by the maritime register of Georgia. The survey cost is included in the registration fee, no additional payment is required.
Dual Flag Registration. Georgia permits parallel registration under an alternative flag via a bareboat charter agreement.
The Georgian Register offers urgent services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with easy access to staff and senior management.

Georgia has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Archaeologists have discovered the world's oldest wine-making evidence here, including ancient pottery fragments and grapevine remnants. The Georgian language is unique and has its own alphabet. Georgians use a vigesimal (base-20) number system. That is, to name any number, for example, between 20 and 100, one must count how many twenties it consists of, name that number, and then the remainder. For understanding: 48 is "two-twenty-eight", or 97 is "four-twenty-seventeen".
